Sap

SAP Sector Overview in Turkey

Greetings to all friends. I hope you enjoy. I’ve been fine for the last few weeks. I realized that I had a hard time telling people about my work. This week, I will talk about SAP and briefly talk about SAP activities and business opportunities in Turkey.

Let’s make the introduction with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). ERP is the general name of systems and software developed to bring together the resources of enterprises (human resources, physical resources, financial resources) to ensure or support their end-to-end management and efficient use. It enables various departments of businesses to work in an integrated manner.

ERP consists of modules. These modules are mostly in direct proportion to the departments in the business. Although the modules vary from software to software, Finance Accounting, Logistics, Marketing, Human Resources, Production Planning are modules found in most ERP projects.

In the Turkish market, despite the emergence of many domestic software in the ERP sector in recent years, the strongest player in the market has always been the German software giant Sap.

Sap achieves this with the excellence of its brand awareness and localization activities. The fact that Microsoft and Oracle, which are the biggest competitors around the world, did not show the necessary interest and investment in the Turkish market, took advantage of the opportunity and made their investments on time, as the biggest player in the market at the moment. (While writing this article, I couldn’t find market data from a healthy source, so I couldn’t add it to the article.)

Most of the corporate companies in Turkey use Sap. However, contrary to popular belief, most of these SAP projects are not carried out by SAP Turkey, but by consulting firms.

Consulting firms are IT firms that have consultants who have knowledge of SAP modules. Most of these companies do not only provide SAP consultancy, but mostly their main focus is SAP consultancy.

So why does a company need Sap Consulting? Because SAP is a complex Enterprise resource planning software. Companies using sap need to be configured according to their needs and ways of doing business.

Here, too, SAP consultants come into play. SAP consultants are the name given to IT personnel who have both the sectoral knowledge in the module they belong to (Turkish Payroll for someone working in the HR module) and the technical knowledge of the relevant module of SAP.

Companies that use SAP employ personnel who know Sap. This personnel are mostly of consultancy background. A few of them have become Sap Experts by taking training from various consultants by using Sap for years. This is called the client-side in the Sap community.

SAP is definitely not a business that can be learned from the internet. For this reason, many companies in the Sap sector have new graduate recruitment programs. That’s how I got into this industry.

My Advice to Friends Who Want to Enter the SAP Industry

  1. Having an internship in a company that uses sap would be a big plus.
  2. English is a must language and German would be a nice plus for this business.
  3. Sap has a lot of products. Having information about these products on Sap’s site can be useful in interviews.
  4. Researching consultancy firms and getting sectoral information from the people working there will put you ahead of your competitors.
